People met on my backpacking 209 - Singapore's power comes from English

One thing Korea and Singapore have in common is that their leaders, Pres. Park Chung-hee and PM Lee Kuan-yu. They produced something from nothing. There was no cash, resources, or technology. It was a wasteland. They pioneered it. They transformed despair into hope. At the heart of everything was an excellent education. It was industrialization. It was the vision of two leaders for the future. As a result, Korea and Singapore remained the world's biggest economic powerhouses. At the same time, no country has achieved greater achievement under the same conditions.

This Singaporean couple was quite proud of Singapore's schooling. It came near to self-praise. Nonetheless, I continued listening. The word was "practical education." This term appeared from time to time. Just like the chorus. Singaporean education is, in a word, future-oriented. There were no lame previous stories. It was globalization and the development of a knowledge-based economy. The goal was to develop human resources to adapt to this. They further stated that this was included into the foundational concept.

English education also emphasizes practical English. It's spoken English. They encouraged them to acquire good communication abilities at a young age. They recognized the value of speaking abilities such as discourse, discussion, argument, and persuasion. Of course, it was important in the world community and politics, including economics, diplomacy, and culture. It is difficult without great English communication abilities in this field. The smart leader did not overlook it. She stated that an English discussion group is still continue to function from the first and second grades of primary school.

I said to her, "What should we do about the public's lack of judgment despite their high educational zeal and highest academic background, and the public and private sectors, real and fake, good and evil, and inability to distinguish between enemies and allies?¡°

Her response: Education is crucial beginning in the lower years of elementary school. In other words, students take part in discussion sessions to encourage individuals to express themselves, listen to others' perspectives, and develop critical and logical thinking abilities like consent and disagreement. This allows students to determine whether the other person's works and beliefs are overly subjective and lack universality. The method requires extensive reading, including newspapers, news, and, in particular, global topics. In other words, they develop a worldwide perspective from a young age.

As a result, the Singaporean government has fostered national talent and increased national competitiveness through English-language exchanges and debates since elementary school. It felt much more real to hear this account straight from the person in control of educational policy. I think that Singaporean pupils obtained outstanding outcomes in worldwide academic evaluations because to knowledgeable instructors and effective governmental supervision that focused on practical ideas for the future.

  Thanks for reading.
