Pelple met on my backpacking 215 - Who knows what Korea looks like in 50 years?

I meet a lot of different people when traveling throughout the world. When I meet them, I get curious and ask questions. Most of them respond to my queries. And they shift their positions. They become the questioners, and I respond (the Koreans have no questions). It means they want to know something about Korea. Most of their queries were on Korea's incredible development. Cause many people still remember Korea's most painful years (the 1950s and 1960s, particularly 6.25). Well, I frequently discover that the powerful impression once ingrained in individuals is not easy to erase.

The topic for today is about a Filipino I met in Sapporo. In my experience, they are found all over the world. Of course, they are looking to earn money. Examples include Cintagma Square in Athens, Greece, Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, Fredrik in Maryland, USA, Rialto in LA, Grafton in Vancouver, a cruise in Singapore, Cairo in Egypt, and so on. They've all graduated from college. They also spoke decent English. There were several occupations. Construction workers, restaurant staff, hotel cleaners, and so forth. The Sapporo hotel's front desk staff included a 30-year-old Filipino male.

Today's subject is another Filipino. One day, I went to Sapporo Park with my wife and came upon a Filipino man cleaning it. As I approached, he addressed me as if he had been waiting. Interestingly, the moment he saw us, he identified us as Koreans. He was in his forties and had graduated from college. He has been in Japan for six months. He is grateful for the opportunity to work as a cleaner. He transfers all of his earnings to his parents for living costs (like we did in Korea throughout the 1950s and 1960s). He immediately said how much he envied Korea.

.

He: "I envy Koreans every time I see them here." I really envy them.

Me: Thank you, but what's making you so jealous?

He: "I feel good when I see Korean tourists." Everyone is cool. They have terrific manners, too. They're not noisy. They appear wealthy.

Me: Thank you. But if you say quiet, isn't that clearly Japanese?

He: Oh definitely. I am talking about the Chinese. They produce a lot of noise. They do anything they want. They smoke in non-smoking locations and leave leftover food on benches or lawns. They do not require laws or rules.

Me: I agree, but why do you believe the Chinese are so arrogant and rogue? Have you ever considered the cause?

He: Don't you realize that? They feel they are at the center of the world. They conceive of another country as their own. So they create a line in the sea wherever they want, threaten others to keep away because it is their sea, and then shoot. They can't attack the United States. Perhaps without America, the globe would be utterly lawless. Just picturing it makes me dizzy.

Me: That's correct. I just visited Kota and Pattaya, and everyone there despised them as well. Actually, it is the same throughout Australia, Europe, and elsewhere. As far as I know, no country welcomes Chinese citizens now. I believe people all across the world are aware of the savagery of the Chinese people.

He: China is like a comprehensive worldwide mobster. They secretly created artificial islands in international waters like thieves and insisted on their own waters, leading our country (the Philippines) to file a complaint with the international court. The court declared the Philippines' win. Nonetheless, China does not observe the law. They shall be punished by God. If they leave, the world will become cleaner and quieter. Furthermore, poor countries will be able to live in peace without being threatened by them.

Me: Cmpletely agree. I believe the world agrees with you, too. I have seen such large posters in any European nation (the "Karelv Bridge" in the Czech Republic). "Heaven should demolish China."

*His words and facial gestures conveyed the pain and unfairness of a poor country. It damaged Filipino dignity. They received a college education. They are aware that their standard of living was superior than that of Korea. As a result, I am always appreciative of those I encounter on my travels, regardless of their economic standing. Because they remind me of my thankful heart, which I'd forgotten for a time.

*So, what about in fifty years? Is there any prospect of reversing positions? Countries such as the Philippines, Malaysia, Ghana, and Gabon would not have anticipated this to occur in 50 years.

**At the time, the Philippines lived twice or three times as much as Korea, as did Malaysia, Ghana, and Gabon in Africa.

Thanks for reading.
