<거짓말쟁이를 용서하지 않는 나라들>
  
  결투는 누군가가 거짓말로 자신이나 국가의 명예를 욕되게 할 때, 명예심(名譽心)에 손상을 입힐 때, 그 명예를 지키기 위해 목숨을 걸고 하는 것이었다. 명예를 목숨보다 더 존중하는 명예심은 아무에게나 있는 게 아니었다. 왕족, 백작 등 귀족들, 영주들, 장교 등 지휘관들, 학자와 법관 등에게만 있었다. 신분이 낮은 천민(賤民)들에게는 애당초 명예심 그 자체가 없었다. 즉, 결투는 상위 개념의 문화였고, 자존심과 체면은 하위 개념의 문화였다. 지금도 그렇다. 열등 민족과 천민 사상을 가진 자들은 명예심이 아닌, 체면과 자존심에만 민감한 반응을 보인다. 마치 목숨 걸고 결투라도 할 듯하지만, 비겁하게도 무게만 잡고 의인(義人)인 양, 애국자인 양 욕설이나 퍼붓고 만다.
  
  가령, 요즘은 덜하지만, 미·영·프 등 외국에서 한국인들이 개고기를 먹는다고 비난하면 한국인은 즉각 TV 신문에 등장해 분노하며 항의한다. 이들의 공통점은 정치인, 학자, 종교인 등 가짜 양반들이다. 하물며 세계 여행을 할 만큼 하고 깨어있을 듯한 상당한 젊은이들조차도 그렇다. 이들의 공통점은 외국인들이 한국인의 자존심을 건드렸다고 말하지 결코 명예심을 건드렸다고는 말하지 않는다는 것. 이들에겐 명예심의 개념도 모르거나 아예 없기 때문이다. 달리 말하면 이들은 천민사상(賤民思想)이 뼛속 깊이 스며든 노예근성의 소인배(小人輩)란 뜻이다. 왜냐면, 실제로 이들은 정작 분노해야 할 땐 안 하거나 못하기 때문이다.
  자국(自國)의 대통령은 물론, 한국인을 무시하고, 주권(主權)을 조롱하고 침해하고 능멸(凌蔑)하는 중공(中共)과 북괴의 무뢰배(無賴輩)들에겐 분노와 굴욕감은커녕 욕도 한 마디 못하는 ‘비겁자’이기 때문이다. 당연하다. 원래 이들에겐 노블레스 오블리주, 즉 명예심 자체가 없었다. 비천(卑賤)한 신분을 상류층으로 세탁해 속였을 뿐이다. 가장 멸시받아야 할 비겁자인 것이다. 기록에 의하면, 거짓말쟁이에게 결투를 먼저 신청한 자는 항상 상대를 이름 대신 ‘비겁한 자(트레산테스)’라고 불렀다.
  
  영국의 하이드 파크는 결투의 장(場)으로도 유명하다. 존 윌크스와 새뮤얼 마틴 등 유명 인사들이 이곳에서 결투했다. 러시아의 시인 푸슈킨도 러시아군 장교 단테스에게 결투를 신청해 싸웠다. 자신이 죽고 말았다(37세). 미국의 대통령이자 독립선언서의 기초자요 건국 아버지의 일원이었던 토머스 제퍼슨도, 재무장관 알렉산더 해밀턴도, 그의 아들 필립 해밀턴도 결투를 신청해 싸웠지만 다 죽었다. 7대 대통령 앤드루 잭슨도 찰스 디킨슨 법률가와 결투했다. 그가 이겼다. 에이브러햄 링컨도 결투 신청을 받고 응했지만, 미수(未遂)에 그쳤다. 독일의 작곡가 조지 프리드리히 헨델도, 독일 총리까지 했던 비스마르크도 그랬다. 이탈리아의 베니토 무솔리니 총리도 프란시스코 치코 티 편집장과 결투했다. 프랑스에선 1685년과 1716년 사이에만, 10,000여 명이 결투했고, 적어도 프랑스 장교 400명이 죽었다고 기록돼 있다.
  
  드물지만 여성도 있었다. 대표적으로 리히텐슈타인의 폴린 공주와 백작 부인 키엘만 세그와 오랜 논쟁 끝에 칼로 승부를 낸 경우다. 그들 중 누구도 칼에 능숙하지 않았지만, 결투했고, 상대에게 먼저 피를 흘리게 한 자로 승부를 가렸다(*이 자료를 보면서 내가 갔던 하이드 파크와 리히텐슈타인이 떠올랐다.). 일본의 결투도 유명하다. 대표적으로 검객(劍客) 미야모토 무사시를 들 수 있다. 그는 60번의 결투를 했다는 기록을 남겼다. 한국?? 칼 대신 입으로만 싸웠다. 나라가 망할 때까지. 그 DNA는 이상하리만큼 지금도 그대로 이어지고 있다.
  
  전쟁에 패하면 노예(奴隷)가 됐다. 모든 걸 다 잃었다. 그들은 경험칙(經驗則)으로 잘 알고 있었다. 주인의식(主人意識)과 책임의식이 강했다. 따라서 주인은 긴장도 하고, 조심도 하고 걱정도 한다. 주인은 비겁하게 자신의 책임을 종에게 떠넘기지 않는다. 나는 이런 말을 하는 한국인을 경멸한다. 비겁자의 전형으로 보기 때문이다. 즉, “모든 걸 긍정적으로 생각하고 웃으며 삽시다.”라고 말하는 자들이다. 이들에겐 한국의 안보와 국방력에 관심이 없다는 뜻이다. 당연한 얘기지만, 이들은 북핵(北核)을 걱정하거나 김정은을 욕하지 않는다. 더하여, 제 맘대로 우리의 주권(主權)을 수시로 침해하는 중공의 시진핑을 욕하고 저주하지도 않는다. 이들이 더욱더 비겁하고 비열한 것은 自由大韓民國의 체제하에서 누릴 건 다 누리면서 배은망덕(背恩忘德)을 넘어 大韓民國의 정통성을 부정한다는 것이다. 천벌을 받을 인간 쓰레기들이다.
  
  이들은 태극기를 싫어한다. 집에 태극기가 있을 리 없다. 국경일에 집이든 차량이든 태극기를 거의 달지 않는다. 구우일모(九牛一毛)다. 주민센터에서 4천 원이면 살 수 있는데도 그렇다. 암튼, 한국인처럼 자기 나라 국기(國旗)에 무관심하거나 무시하는 나라를 난 아직 보지 못했다. 중공, 러시아, 북한, 쿠바, 베트남, 라오스 등 공산국가는 말할 것도 없지만, 일본을 포함 서구와 이슬람 등 큰 전쟁을 많이 치른 나라의 공통점이 있다. 그것은 자국기(自國旗) 달기를 좋아한다는 것. 자긍심(自矜心) 또한 대단하다는 것. 주변국들이 함부로 건들지 못하는 이유이기도 하다.
  
  30년 전, 나가사키 어느 식당에서 식사 중 유치원생으로 보인 어린이 10명이 앉아있는 걸 봤다. 유심(有心)히 봤더니 그들의 식탁 위에 놓인 각자의 밥공기 가운데에 조그만 일장기(日章旗)들이 하나씩 꽂혀 있었다. 아이들은 그것에 묵례(默禮)하고 먹었다. 이외 비슷한 장면을 이스라엘, 미국, 영국, 인도, 터키, 핀란드, 아르헨, 멕시코, 이집트, 튀니지, 태국 등에서도 본 적이 있다. 내가 광화문에서 태극기의 물결을 볼 때마다 눈물이 날 만큼 기쁘고 자랑스러운 이유이다. (*武人보다 文人을 더 숭배한 나라는 다 망했다.)

  A duel is a combat to defend one's honor at the expense of one's life when it harms one's honor or the state. There were only nobles and commanders. Because the lower class lacked a sense of honor. In other words, dueling was a culture of higher conceptions, whereas pride and face were cultures of lower ones. This is why individuals of lesser nationalities and shallow brains risk their lives for the sake of face and pride, rather than honor.
  
  For example, when Westerners from the United States, United Kingdom, and France accuse Koreans of consuming dog meat, Koreans respond angrily. Because they lack sense of dignity. They are the most feared cowards. Those who asked for a duel initially always referred to their opponents as "cowards (Tresantes)" rather than their actual names.
  
  Hyde Park in England is also known for its duel. Celebrities include John Williams and Samuel L. Martin fought here. Pushkin, the Russian poet, also requested Russian military officer Dantes to fight, but he died (37). Thomas Jefferson, the president of the United States, the author of the Declaration of Independence, one of the founding fathers, Alexander Hamilton, the Secretary of the Treasury, and his son, Philip Hamilton, all engaged in a duel but perished. The Japanese duel is likewise famous. Musashi Miyamoto, a swordsman, is a typical example. He is listed as having fought 60 dueling contests. When I read this information, I was reminded of Hyde Park and Liechtenstein, both of which I had visited many years prior. What about Korea? They battled with their tongues rather than swords. They did this until the country was destroyed. Embarrassingly, that DNA is still naturally transmitted to Koreans. Something is very wrong.
  
  I dislike Koreans who say, "Let's live with a smile and think positively about everything," since they are unconcerned about North Korea's nuclear weapons. I have never seen someone curse CCP leader Xi Jinping, who attacks our sovereignty. What is even more cowardly and cruel of them is that they question the validity of the ROK out of ingratitude despite enjoying all available under the free ROK system. Those human filth will undoubtedly be punished by heaven sooner or later.
  
  They despised the Korean flag. There is no Taegeukgi in the house. On national holidays, I seldom see the national flag, whether at home or in their automobile. I've never seen a country as ignorant of their national flag as Korea. Despite the fact that it is available for around $3 at the community service centers Dong office.
  
  Anyway, I've never seen a country that disregards or ignores their national flag like Korea. Not to mention communist nations like China, Russia, North Korea, Cuba, Vietnam, and Laos, one of the constants across countries that have fought many major wars, including Japan, the West, and Islam, is that they like flying their own flag. Their self-esteem is likewise high.
  
  Thirty years ago, I noticed ten children dining at a Nagasaki restaurant who appeared to be kindergarteners. When I looked attentively, I noticed miniature Japanese flags in the middle of each rice dish set in front of their table. The kids saluted and ate it. I've seen comparable sights in Israel, the United States, the United Kingdom, India, Turkey, Finland, Argentina, Mexico, Egypt, Tunisia, Thailand, and elsewhere.
  
  This type of experience makes me joyful and proud whenever I watch Taegeukgi waves in Kwanghwamun, Seoul, the Republic of Korea's capital. I couldn't always stop the flood of tears from my eyes and heart. (*If ROK allows the giant liar to control Korea, we lose everything.)
