*여행 중 만난 사람들56 – 석유 한 방울 안 나오는 나라

  외국인들 특히 선진국으로부터 많이 듣는 말 가운데 하나는 한국의 지하철은 세계 제일이라는 것. 전적으로 공감한다. 솔직히 칭찬인지 비아냥인지는 모르겠다만. 어쨌든 미국 영국을 포함 EU 국가들과 일본 러시아 중국 등을 여행하면서 그들의 지하철을 다 이용해 본 입장에서 그렇다.
  
  특히 지하철의 난방과 냉방이 그렇다. 나는 지금까지 어느 나라의 지하철도 한국의 지하철처럼 난방과 냉방이 잘 된 지하철을 보지 못했다. 런던 등 어떤 지하철은 아예 냉난방 시설을 가동하지 않는 때도 있었다. 그러나 너무 덥다고 혹은 너무 춥다고 짜증내는 사람은 없었다.
  
  사실 한국은 너무 지나칠 정도여서 오히려 비난의 대상이 된다. 즉 너무 덥게 한다거나 너무 춥게 한다는 것이다. 흔히 말하는 석유 한 방울 안 나오는 나라에서.
  
  한국에선 계절의 변화를 지하철에서 먼저 느낀다고 해도 과언이 아니다. 진짜 겨울이 오기도 전에 난방을 가동하고 진짜 여름이 오기 전에 에어컨에서 찬 바람이 나오기 때문이다.
  
  물론 이 문제에 정답은 없다. 사람마다 건강, 체질 등의 입장이 다르기 때문이다. 그럼에도 불구하고 적절한 기준의 온도 설정은 가능하다고 생각한다. 당신은 지하철 온도는 몇 도 정도가 적절하다고 생각하는가? 그리고 가정집은? 가끔 언론에서도 봤지만 실제로 얼마 전에 실내 온도를 여름으로 맞춰놓고 반바지 입고 사는 양반의 집을 직접 보기도 했다.

  One of the things I hear a lot from foreigners, especially developed countries, is that Korean subways are the best in the world. I totally agree with this statement. Well, honestly I don't know if their words are compliments or sarcastics.
  
  My answer is the result of using all their subways while traveling to EU countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom, Japan, Russia, and China.
  
  This is especially true in the heating and cooling functions of subways. Until now, I have not seen subways in any country with good heating and cooling like subways in Korea. But no one was annoyed because it was too hot or too cold.
  
  In fact, Korea is rather subject to criticism because it is too much. In other words, it makes it too hot or too cold. This is the case in a country that does not produce a single drop of oil.
  
  It is no exaggeration to say that in Korea, you feel the change of seasons first on the subway. This is because heating is turned on even before the real winter comes and cold wind comes out of the air conditioner before the real summer comes.
  
  Of course, there is no correct answer to this problem. This is because each person has a different position on health and constitution. Nevertheless, I think it is possible to set an appropriate temperature. What temperature do you think is appropriate for the subway? What about your house? I recently visited the house of a person wearing shorts with the room temperature had set to summer, seen in the media as well.
