태국 여행 6일째: 치앙라이 투어, 화이트 템플

치앙마이를 세 번째 왔고, 그 전에 두 번 다 치앙라이 투어를 갔습니다. 그 전에 두 번 투어 간 것과 내용이 달라져서 다시 투어 갔습니다. 가격이 숙소에서 1300바트, 시내 여행사 중 제일 적게 부르는 곳이 1200바트. 선택 옵션 300바트. 우리나라 일일 투어비보다 비싼 것 같아, 직접 버스타고 가려다, 편한 게 나은 것 같아 투어 신청했습니다. 

치앙마이 숙소에서 봉고 버스 태워, 중간에 휴게소 겸 온천물이 솟아나는 곳에 차를 세웁니다. 화장실 다녀오고, 계란이나 메추리 알 사서 온천물에 삶을 수 있는데... 15분 안에 삶으려니 메추리 알이나, 계란도 아주 작은 계란을 팝니다.

중간 휴식을 하고 다시 달려 치앙라이로 향합니다. 저희 투어 차는 손님이 12명이 탔는데, 한 줄에 세 명. 제 친구, 저, 브라질 아가씨. 옆에 앉은 브라질 아가씨는 치앙마이는 혼자 여행 중인데, 치앙마이 여행 후 방콕에서 1년째 영어 선생을 하고 있는 여동생과 만나 코팡안, 코사무이를 간다고 합니다. 크라비 여행을 저는 추천했고, 저희 부부가 여행했던 브라질 포함 남미여행에 대해 이야기를 나누었습니다. 

치앙마이에서 치앙라이까지 3시간 걸려, 치앙라이에 있는 화이트템플(왓 렁쿤)에 도착했습니다. 예술가 찰름차이 코싯피팟(Chalermchai Kositpipat)이 1997년 디자인한 사원이라고 합니다.  

아직도 계속 진행 중인 사원입니다. 입장료로 외국인에게 100밧 받는데, 저희는 일일 투어라 투어비에 포함되어 있습니다. 

우리 가이드는 태국식 영어 발음에 영어 실력이 현장에서 배운 영어 실력이라, 구글 번역기에 음성 인식시키면 거의 기계가 인식 못할 발음입니다^^ 그래도 손님 12명이 4명은 동양인, 8명은 스페인어나 폴투갈, 프랑스어 쓰는 사람들이라 가이드와 같은 부실한 영어 실력으로 대강 설명을 이해, 해석합니다^^ 오히려 영어를 모국어로 쓰는 손님이 있으면 그 사람이 다른 여행자에게 물어봤을 것 같습니다^^ 비영어권 국가 사람들이 영어를 할 때는 서로 눈치가 작동하지만, 영어권 사람이 영어를 쓸 때는 눈치를 쓰지도, 쓸 필요도 없으니까요. 

부처님의 성스러움을 나타내는 흰색, 다리는 우리가 걸어가는 인생길, 물 아래 진흙은 지옥, 본당은 천국, 천국에서는 사진 촬영 금지입니다.

구름이 끼었는데도 언뜻언뜻 보이는 햇살로도 흰색이 반사되어 엄청 햇살이 따갑습니다. 사진 열심히 찍고, 뒤편은 출입금지라 옆 출구로 나오면, 금빛으로 번쩍번쩍하는 화장실이 나옵니다.

Day 6 of my trip to Thailand

White Temples in Chiang Rai  

This is my third visit to Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. This Chiang Rai tour is different from the program I had before. So, I tried it. The cost of the tour this time was 1,300 baht at the hotel, but it's cheaper out of the hotel, about 1,200 baht, at a regular travel agency downtown. The option was 300 baht. The tour fee here seemed to be more expensive than that of in Korea. So, we thought using regular bus independently. However, we changed our minds again and signed up for a more comfortable and easy way of hotel tour.  

The tour started with a Bongo(mini- bus) from our hotel and stopped at a rest area in the middle of the road. There's Hot spring water. There's also a toilet there. You can buy eggs or quail eggs and boil them in this hot spring water. However, these sellers only sold tiny quail eggs and eggs that could be boiled in a short time of 15 minutes. 

The bus kept running to Chiang Rai after taking a break. There were 12 travelers, including the two of us in the bus. Three people sat in a row. The Brazilian girl next to me was traveling alone in Chiang Mai. After her trip to Chiang Mai she said, she's going to Kopangan Island and Koh Samui Island with her sister who had been teaching English for a year in Bangkok. I recommended her a trip to Krabi, too. I told her about a trip to S. America, including Brazil, where my husband and I traveled. 

We drove three hours from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai and arrived at the White Temple, Wat Leungkun in Chiang Rai.   .

This temple was said to have been designed by the artist Chalermchai Kositpipat in 1997.  

Working on this temple was still ongoing. The entrance fee here was 100 baht for foreigners, but ours was already included in the tour fee. 

Funny to say, our Thai guide's English was not the English he learned at school, but the typical survival English he learned on the streets. His English pronunciation was so hard that even Google machine can't read it ^^ Fortunately, all 12 travelers were non-English speakers. They were Spanish guys, Portuguese, French people, and Brazilian. Funnily, like us, they all understood the guide's tough English roughly ^^ 

I thought it would have been more confusing if they were native speakers of English^^ Because when people from non-English speaking countries talk in English, they can catch each other's speaking easily. It means they are aware of each other's shoes. However, English speakers generally have no experience in trying to understand broken English. Why? I think they don't have to try to understand it hardly. I mean they don’t have to be quick-witted like us. 

The symbols here were as follows: The white meant the representation of Buddha's holiness, the bridge was the path of life we should walk on, the mud under the water was hell, the main hall was heaven. Right, taking photo was prohibited in heaven.

Even though it's cloudy here, the sunlight that appears for a moment reflected the white color of the building, and the sunlight was very hot. After taking a lot of pictures, we came out of the exit that was allowed in the back yard. Surprisingly, there was a gold-glittering toilet was waiting visitors.
