스티브 잡스가 남긴 마지막 말-

  그는 췌장암으로 56세에 억만장자로 세상을 떠났다. 그가 병상에서 남긴 마지막 말은 다음과 같다.
  
  "나는 비즈니스 세계에서 성공의 정상(頂上)에 올랐다. 남들 눈에는 내 인생이 곧 성공의 전형이었다. 하지만, 일 외에 나에게 즐거움이란 없었다. 결국, 부(富)와 명성(名聲)이란 나도 모르게 내가 거기에 익숙해져 버린 것, 그 이상도 이하도 아니었다.
  
  병상(病床)에 누워 평생의 삶을 뒤돌아보니, 내가 알고 있었던 지식과 그토록 뿌듯하게 여기던 부는 결국 임박한 죽음 앞에선 무용지물(無用之物)에 불과했다.
  
  누구나 개인 운전사를 고용할 수 있고, 돈도 벌 수 있다. 하지만, 자기를 대신해 아파줄 사람을 구할 순 없다. 잃어버린 물건을 찾을 순 있지만, 찾을 수 없는 게 하나 있다. 바로 '생명'이다.
  
  일단 중환자(重患者)실에 들어가 보면 아는 게 하나 있다. 그것은 자신의 건강을 얼마나 소홀히 했나를 깨닫는 것이다. 건강 지식과 실천 등. 허나 이미 늦었다.
  
  사람은 각자, 현재 자신의 삶이 어느 단계에 있든, 조만간에, 인생의 마지막 순간이 온다는 걸 알아야 한다.
  
  먼저 배우자를 사랑하고 가족 그리고 마음이 맞는 친구가 있다면 그를 더 가까이하는 게 바람직하다. 물론, 자기 자신을 존중해야 한다. 그래야 남도 소중히 여길 줄 안다.
  
  우리는 나이가 들면서 철이 든다고 한다. 많은 상식과 경험 등 시간이 필요하다는 뜻이다.
  
  300만 원짜리 시계든 3만 원 시계든, 둘 다 같은 시간을 알려준다. 300만 원 지갑(핸드백)이든 3만 원짜리든 그 속에 든 돈의 가치는 같다. 1억 차를 타든 1천만 원 차를 타든, 차가 달리는 도로와 거리는 같다. 목적지에 도착하는 것도 같다. 60만 원짜리 와인을 마시든 6만 원짜리 와인을 마시든 취하는 것 역시 같다. 50평에 살든 15평에 살든 즐거움이든 외로움이든 희노애락(喜怒哀樂)의 본질은 같다.
  
  당신이 원하는 진정한 내면(內面)의 행복은 돈을 포함한 물질적 풍요가 아님을 죽음 직전에 깨닫게 될 것이다. 일등석에 탔든, 비즈니스석에 탔든, 이코노미석에 탔든, 비행기가 추락하면 같이 추락한다. (나라가 망하면 함께 망하듯이)
  
  그러므로 가능한 한 대화가 통하는 좋은 사람들(가치관이 같거나 비슷한 가족, 친구 등)과 어울리는 게 좋다. 수다를 떨면서 웃고 노래도 부르고, 나아가 세상 돌아가는 폭넓은 대화도 나누면서 삶의 이치(理致)와 지혜(智慧)를 깨닫는 것이, 그나마 길지 않은 인생에서 자기 분수(分數)에 맞는 진정한 행복을 누리다 가는 것임을 뒤늦게 깨달았다!!

  "I reached the pinnacle of success in the business world. In others’ eyes my life is an epitome of success.
  
  However, aside from work, I have little joy. In the end, wealth is only a fact of life that I am accustomed to.
  
  At this moment, lying on the sick bed and recalling my whole life, I realize that all the recognition and
  
  wealth that I took so much pride in, have paled and become meaningless in the face of impending death.
  
  You can employ someone to drive the car for you, make money for you but you cannot have someone to bear the sickness for you.
  
  Material things lost can be found. But there is one thing that can never be found when it is lost – "Life".
  
  When a person goes into the operating room, he will realize that there is one book that he has yet to finish reading – "Book of Healthy Life.”
  
  Whichever stage in life we are at right now, with time, we will face the day when the curtain comes down. Treasure Love for your family, love for your spouse, love for your friends….Treat yourself well. Cherish others.
  
  As we grow older, and hence wiser, we slowly realize that —
  
  wearing a $300 or $30 watch - they both tell the same time…Whether we carry a $300 or $30 wallet/handbag - the amount of money inside is the same;
  
  Whether we drive a $150,000 car or a $30,000 car, the road and distance is the same, and we get to the same destination.
  
  Whether we drink a bottle of $300 or $10 wine - the hangover is the same;
  Whether the house we live in is 300 or 3000 sq ft - loneliness is the same.
  You will realize, your true inner happiness does not come from the material things of this world.
  
  Whether you fly first or economy class, if the plane goes down - you go down with it…
  
  Therefore.. I hope you realize, when you have mates, buddies and old friends, brothers and sisters, who you chat with, laugh with, talk with, have sing songs with, talk about north-south-east-west or heaven and earth,…That is true happiness!!
