People met on my backpacking125 - Koreans' notion of money. -

.

According to an article in a daily newspaper, Koreans' concept of money does not seem to be much different from before. It is said that almost 1 million people have changed their cell phones with subsidies in the past month alone. In other words, Koreans have abandoned 100 million mobile phones that are still intact. If this is converted into money, it is 10 trillion won. Korea is the country where this huge amount of money is just being thrown away. 10% of the money, or 1 trillion won, is the amount that a young man of 20 can spend 35 million won every day for 80 years if he or she lives to 100. This money can be spent for as long as 2,739 years when 1 million won is spent every day.

.

Anyone who watches Korean news on TV or reads a newspaper will feel that the amount of money, millions or tens of millions won, is not even money. This is because it is too easy for the media to talk about billions of won, billions of won, trillions of won, and trillions of won. Therefore, it seems that Koreans have taken the importance of money and its concept lightly rather than cautious. A businessman bribed a politician with hundreds of millions of won. The "Daejang-dong Gang" gave 5 billion won to a lawyer's child. It gave 10 billion won to some legal professionals, and tens of billions to some mayors, provincial governors, and lawmakers. The "civic organization support fund" that was distributed during the Moon administration alone amounted to 22 trillion won. (It was 3.56 trillion won during the Park Geun-hye administration, but increased to 5.45 trillion won during the Moon Jae-in administration). This is why the national debt has already exceeded 2000 trillion last year <2021> (763 trillion increased only in the Moon government. - JoongAng Ilbo 2022.04.06). Of course there are more.

.

The mysterious $1.35 billion "DJ's slush fund in the U.S." became a problem when a $100 million check related to North Korea was found! Monthly Chosun March 2020 issue¡·

The Moon Jae Inn government spent about 12 trillion won on "solar power generation facilities" over the past five years. The amount of damage in Gyeongbuk alone is 28.8 trillion won due to the "de-nuclearization policy." Due to the denuclearization, the construction cost of Shin-Kori Units 5 and 6 increased by 400 billion won. Construction costs of more than 2 trillion won have also been added to reactors 1 and 2, which have been suspended from nuclear power plants. KRW 60 trillion 'COVID-19 Support Fund' and 'Self-employed Loan' are KRW 309 trillion. The total budget supported by the government for 15 years with the "low birth budget" is 380.2 trillion won. 21.3 trillion won was spent on "Moon Care Costs." The cost of installing the "subway screen door" was 2.5 billion won for ground stations and 4.5 billion won for underground stations. This year, students' budget for eco-friendly free meals is 727.1 billion won. The "Youth Job Support Fund" is 5.4 trillion won, and the budget for "public-interest jobs" such as "picking up trash for the elderly and raising flags for crosswalks" is 1.4478 trillion won, etc.

.

Seeing this phenomenon, people in real rich countries and real powers are confused. I think it is normal for them to not understand Korea because they have become rich and powerful by saving even 1 dollar, 1 yen, and 1 euro. They don't throw away money like trash like Koreans, whether it's individual or government. Koreans, who do not even have the basis of economic concepts, are lucky enough to suddenly become rich. No one can hold out long if they are mentally ill. "Those who like it for free are good at throwing it away." Yes. Korea is a country where anyone can just pick up money thrown away on the street. I haven't seen any other country such as Korea yet.

.

Then, where did this cause come from? Who will be responsible for that? I think it's primarily in parents and educators. Because they did not teach any of the most important basic knowledge for their children's survival, economic concepts and how to use tools, which are hand techniques. Everything was OK if their kids studied well. In the case of developed countries, such basics are started at home and supplemented by schools to raise them as adults. The value of money and the importance of resources to them are thoroughly disciplined through theory and practice from an early age and then get into society.

.

People from rich countries living in Korea, they say that there is money on the streets of Korea, so anyone can pick it up. The USA, the UK, Japan, Germany, Sweden, etc., are people of great powers who have rational thinking and practical life based on economic concepts. Most of them, including home appliances, only need to buy them once or twice in a lifetime (actually, I've stayed at my Japanese and American friends' homes &; found there were old fans, phones, cameras, desks, etc.) With such savings, they create a powerful state. And if whatever they want, they come to action anytime, anywhere. I'm so envious of them. Is it just me?

.

Actually, I was surprised a lot while traveling to poor countries. Pakistan, Mongolia, Myanmar, India, Syria, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Bolivia, Venezuela, Peru, etc. I mean that I saw lots of things there Koreans threw out of Korea, such as clothes, bags, shoes, watches, cell phones, etc. What's more surprising was that abandoned Korean products were sold at much higher prices than their own products in their traditional markets. This was as if American and Japanese second-hand clothes and goods were more popular in Korea until the 50s and 60s.

.

Thanks.
