  이래서 나라는 무조건 부강(富強)하고 볼 일이다. 나라가 가난하면 제아무리 BTS처럼 노래를 잘 부르고, 한국의 골프 여제(女帝)들이 LPGA를 석권해도, 임윤찬 피아노 천재 소년이 국제 피아노 콩쿠르에서 60년 역사상 최연소로 우승을 차지해도, 미나리와 오징어 게임 등 좋은 영화를 만들어도 세계는 관심 없다. 눈길조차 안 준다. 왜? 세계 곳곳엔 한국인만큼 머리 좋고 다재다능(多才多能)한 재주꾼들이 넘쳐나기 때문이다. 반증(反證)은 간단하다. 지금이라도 대통령이나 국회의원을 잘못 뽑아 경제를 망치고 안보를 불안하게 하면 된다. 순식간에 모든 게 물거품이 된다. 한국의 천재들은 북한(北韓)처럼 골방(우물안)에서 썩고 만다. 언어 역시 마찬가지다. 한글이 제아무리 뛰어나도 관심 없다. 88 올림픽 이전만 생각해보면 된다. 이후의 한국은 분명 다르다. 오늘날 영국의 옥스퍼드사전과 미국의 웹스터 사전에 등재되는 순 한국어가 점점 늘어나는 것만 봐도 그렇다. 우리가 부탁하지 않아도 알아서 척척 해 준다.
  
  우리(Woori), 기분(Kiboon), 대박(Daebak), 한류(Hallyu), 한복(Hanbok), 재벌(Chaebol), 꼰대(Kkondae), 온돌(Ondol), 오빠(Oppa), 누나(Noona), 언니(Unnie), 애교(Aegyo), 막내(Maknae), 먹방(Mukbang), 떡볶기(Topokki), 반찬(Banchan), 김밥(Kimbap), 치맥(Chimaek), 김치(Kimchi), 동치미(Dongchimi), 불고기(Bulgogi), 잡채(Japchae), 고추장(Gochujang), 삼겹살(Samgyopsal), 소주(Soju), 막걸리(Makkoli),태권도(Taekwondo), 콩글리시(Konglish), PC방(PC bang), 노래방(Norae bang) 등이 대표적이다.
  
  이는 대체로 우리가 자부심을 가질 만한 한국 고유의 언어들이다. 그러나 옥(玉)에도 티는 있는 법. 개고기(Kaekogi), 갑질(Gapjil), 서방질(Sobangjil), 고자질(Kojagil), 사기꾼(Sagikoon), 내로남불(Naeronambul) 등은 아니다. 왜냐면, 이런 표현들은 성공한 대한민국의 국격(國格)을 떨어뜨리는 매우 부정적이고 부끄러운 이미지를 낳는다. 언어문화의 수준이 곧 그 나라 국민의 수준이기 때문이다. 이와 관련해 다음은 내가 직접 겪은 경험담 중 하나이다.
  
  “내로남불’이 뭔가요?”나는 이 말을 한 번은 태국 방콕에서 만난 영국인으로부터, 또 한번은 로마에서 만난 미국인으로부터 직접 들었다. 국내에서나 통용되는 속어(俗語)로 알았는데 그게 아니었다. 물어봤더니 이들은 자기 나라의 신문을 보고 알았다고 했다. 창피하지만 좋지 않은 말이 그대로 쓰인 것이다. 사소한 거짓말이야 누구나 어디서나 다 하지만 ‘내로남불’은 그 선(線)을 넘은 것이다. 즉 그들에겐 가볍게 웃어넘길 내용의 거짓이 아니다. 적어도 그들의 보편적 정서와 문화가 그렇다. 영어로 옮겨보면 더 실감난다. (If I do it, it’s a romance; if others do it, it’s an extramarital affair. 내가 하면 로맨스이지만, 남이 하면 불륜이다.) 불륜(不倫)을 달리 표현하면 ‘간통’(It’s adultery)이기 때문이다. 간통은 사소한 거짓, 속임수가 아니다. 부부의 신뢰성 문제이다. 이들이 나에게 짓궂게 묻는 의도는 한국에선 간통(姦通)이 얼마나 흔하면 그런 말을 한국인 모두가 아무 죄의식 없이 사용하는 가이며, 자기 나라 언론에도 소개가 되었겠느냐다. (참고: 부부 어느 한쪽의 애정과 신뢰가 사라지면 깨끗이 이혼하는 것이 그들의 문화이다.)
  
  어느 사회나 논리적 판단이나 합리적 사고(思考)가 외면을 당하면 거짓말쟁이와 사기꾼들 그리고 선동꾼들이 들끓게 돼 있다. 반지성주의(反知性主義), 야만(野蠻)의 시대가 열리는 것이다. 곧 제2의 괴벨스가 수없이 나타나 마치 경쟁이라도 하듯이 얼굴에 철판을 깔고 거짓말을 쏟아낸다. “아니다. 모른다. 기억이 안 난다. 함께 배를 타고 골프도 쳤지만 모르는 사람이다. 병사(兵士) 월급을 월 200만 원으로 인상하겠다.” 등. 이들은 여기에 그치지 않는다. “거짓말도 100번 하면 진실이 된다.” “보통사람들(붕어, 개구리, 가재, 개, 돼지들)은 작은 거짓말보다는 더 큰 거짓말을 좋아하고 또 잘 속는다.”라는 그들의 위대한 악귀(惡鬼) 멘토인 괴벨스의 가르침을 매일 충실히 수행하고 있다는 게 문제다.
  
  그 결과 자유대한민국의 헌법은 물론 보편적 가치인 자유와 인권 등 정의(正義)의 개념이 모호해지고 급기야는 정의의 잣대인 법관의 양심과 법치주의가 무너진다. 무법천지(無法天地)가 되는 것이다. 이미 합리적 사고나 논리적 판단이 사라진 곳에는 말초신경(末梢神經)의 지배를 받는 감정과 충동과 거짓만 남게 된다. 결국, 한국의 ‘내로남불’ 현상은 이성적, 합리적 판단을 받아들이는 대신 괴벨스의 악마적 사기(詐欺)와 선동(煽動)으로 가정과 사회 그리고 나라를 파탄 내는 것이다. 절대 그렇게 놔둘 수는 없다. 먼저 거짓말 중의 거짓말인 ‘내로남불’이란 말이 아무 거부감 없이 마구 쓰이는 병폐(病弊)부터 고치는 것이 순서이다.

They don't even look at Koeans. Why? This is because there are so many talented people around the world who are as smart and versatile as Koreans. Here's the counterevidence. Even now, if Koreans could choose the wrong president or lawmakers to ruin the economy and destabilize security, everything would go to nothing in an instant, just like N. Korean geniuses rot in a well. The same is true of language. Of course, no matter how good Hangeul is, they are not interested. Think about before and after the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games. The same is true of the increasing number of Korean words listed in the Oxford Dictionary in Britain and the Webster Dictionary in the United States today. Cause Korea is no longer the poorest like before.
  
  Examples are as follows. Woori(we), Kiboon(mood), Daebak(bingo), Hallyu(Korean trand), Hanbok(Korean traditional clothes), Chaebol(conglomerate), Kkondae(old man), Ondol(Korean floor heating system), Oppa(a girl's older brother), Noona(a boy's older sister), Unnie(a girl's older sister), Aegyo(a cutie), Maknae(a youngest kid), Mukbang(famous food court), Topokki(a seasoned bar rice cake), Banchan(side dish), Kimbap(Seaweed Wrapped boiled Rice), Chimaek(chicken & beer), Kimchi(fermented vegetable food), Dongchimi(watery radish Kimchi), Bulgogi(sliced & seasoned barbequed beef), Japchae(mixed dish of boiled bean threads), Gochujang(red pepper paste), Samgyopsal(pork belly), Soju(Korean distilled spirits), Makkoli(raw rice wine),Taekwondo(Korean martial arts), Konglish(broken English), PC bang(internet cafe), Norae bang(singing room), etc.
  
  These are mostly Korean-specific languages that we can take pride in. However, no gold is without its dross. Words such as Kaekogi, Gapjil, Sobangjil, Kojagil, Sagikoon, and Naeronambul should not be allowed. These expressions create a very negative and shameful image that undermines the national prestige of the successful ROK. This is because the level of language culture reflects the level of the people in the country. The following is one of my first-hand experiences related to this issue.
  
  In any society where there is no room for logical judgment or rational thinking, liars, cheaters, and demagogues are infested. The era of anti-intellectualism and barbarism opens. In any society where rational thinking or logical judgment has disappeared, only barbaric impulses and behaviors under extreme emotional control remain. After all, instead of accepting rational and reasonable judgments, Korea's "inner conflict" phenomenon destroys the family, society, and country with Goebbels' demonic fraud and instigation. No. We can never let that happen. First of all, it is in order to prevent us from using the word 'naeronambul' carelessly.
