군인의 명예를 욕되게 하지 마시라
  
  *군인은 군복(軍服)을 입고 있는 한 국가와 국민을 지켜야 할 의무가 있다.
  *군인은 명령에 따른다.
  *군인은 상사(上司)로부터 임무(任務)를 부여받는다.
  *군인이 임무를 수행하다 목숨을 잃는 것은 군인의 명예(名譽)요 긍지(矜持)요 전통(傳統)이다.
  *그래서 군인은 찬사(讚辭)를 받고 격려(激勵)를 받고 존중(尊重)받는다.
  *따라서 군인은 결코 위로(慰勞)받고 동정(同情)받는 대상이 아니다.
  *군인은 절대 나약(懦弱)하고 허약한 존재(虛弱)가 아니기 때문이다.
  
  국민 여러분
  
  우리 해병대원 한 명은 위와 같은 절차를 거쳐 군인의 본분(本分)과 사명(使命)을 다하였습니다. 겉으로 보이는 눈물과 통곡(痛哭)은 군인 정신과 명예에 누(累)를 끼칠 뿐입니다. 눈물과 통곡에는 부당하고 억울하다는 의미도 내포(內包)되어 있기 때문입니다.
  
  그럴 리가 없습니다. 만약 그랬다면, 그런 정신으로 우리는 6·25 남침(南侵)을 막을 수 없었습니다. 그런 정신으로 더 악랄(惡辣)하고 포악(暴惡)해진 북괴와 중공을 막을 수 없습니다. 오늘날 세계가 부러워하는 성공한 자유 대한민국을 지탱해 나갈 수 없을 것입니다.
  
  군인은 명령에 살고 명령에 죽습니다. 이를 지킨 군대가 전쟁에서 이겨 자유를 지켰습니다. 구명조끼를 지급하지 않는 한 지휘관의 명령에 복종하지 않겠다고 해야 했을까요? 군인이 자신의 안전과 생명을 보장하지 않는 한 명령에 따를 수 없다고 해야 했을까요?
  
  여러분의 아들이, 오빠가, 애인이 그런 나약하고 비루(鄙陋)하고 비겁(卑怯)한 군인이 되길 원했을 리가 없습니다. 군인은 사기(士氣)가 꺾이고 명예가 훼손되면 적(敵)과 싸울 힘을 잃게 됩니다. 전쟁에 이길 수 없습니다. 패자는 승자의 노예가 됩니다. 누가 그 길을 원할까요,
  
  군법(軍法)과 규정을 어겨 발생한 문제는 당연히 그에 대한 책임이 따를 것입니다. 사고는 항상 있게 마련, 그때마다 상사(上司)를 비난하고 처벌한다면 누가 그 일을 하려고 할까요.
  
  전쟁에서 이기는 나라들, 세계 최강의 나라들, 이들에게 공통점이 있습니다. 유족(遺族)이 슬픔을 이기지 못해 눈물을 보이고 통곡하는 장면을 TV에 노출(露出)시키지 않습니다. 고인과 유족의 명예를 지키기 위해서입니다. 이는 전적으로 언론(言論)의 책임이며 수준이기도 합니다. 명령에 따라 의무를 다한 장병의 명복을 빌며 유족에게 위로의 말씀을 전합니다.

  *Soldiers must follow instructions.
  *Soldiers are given duties by their leaders.
  *A soldier's death while carrying out his task is to keep his dignity, pride, and self-esteem.
  *As a result, warriors are complimented, encouraged, and appreciated.
  *So, troops are seldom consoled or empathetic.
  *Because a soldier is never a weak creature who cries.
  
  Brothers and sisters, one of our marines went through the procedure outlined above and completed his obligations and purpose as a soldier. Your outward sobs and cries do nothing except undermine the soldier's spirit and honor. This is because tears and wails signify abnormality and injustice.
  
  No. Certainly not. If such is the case, we were unable to prevent the 6.25 N. Korean invasion of the Korean Peninsula. We can't halt the N. Korean invasion or the C.C.P, which has gotten more rude and dictatorial, with such an attitude. We shall not be able to preserve the prosperous and free Republic of Korea that the rest of the world admires today.
  
  A soldier lives and dies by orders. The army that followed it won the battle and preserved independence. Should the soldier have refused to follow orders from the commander until he was provided a life jacket? However, none of the troops, including him, stated that they would refuse to obey orders until their safety and lives were assured. why?
  
  You could never have imagined that your son, sibling, or lover would grow up to be such a cowardly, nasty soldier. You are well aware that when troops' morale is low and their honor is damaged, they lose the ability to combat the enemy. The commanding officer who broke military law and issued an order in violation of the rules must accept responsibility.
  
  I think it is our collective responsibility and right to demand that the military authorities carry out a comprehensive investigation.
  
  The countries who win the war—the world's most powerful nations—share something. The issue is that the scene of the grieving family crying and sobbing because they are unable to overcome their pain is not aired on television. This is done to protect the deceased's and bereaved's honor. This is totally the media's obligation and level.
  
  I truly want the soldier who carried out his order to rest in peace. I extend my sympathies to the deceased family.
