잘 속는 사람들과 속지 않는 사람들

  IQ가 세계 1등인 두 나라가 있다. 한국과 이스라엘이다. 나는 이스라엘을 세 번 여행했다. 총(總) 두 달 정도. 다른 나라 여행 중 이들과 함께 숙식도 하고 동행도 해봤다(마추픽추 트레킹, 우즈벡 타슈켄트, 베트남 나트랑 게스트하우스). 많은 대화를 나눠보았다. 재미있었다. 나름대로 두 나라 사이의 같은 점과 다른 점을 구분해 봤다.
  
  같은 점:
  1. 세계 여행을 많이 한다. (*그들은 국가는 물론 사회가 권장한다.)
  2. 교육열이 높다. (*그들은 가정 교육과 공교육 중심이다.)
  3. 말싸움에서 지지 않는다. (*그들은 묻고 답하기를 즐긴다.)
  4. 장사를 잘한다. (*계산에 철저하다. 공과 사가 분명하다.)
  5. 강대국의 속국이었다. (이집트, 로마, 중국, 일본)
  6. 신탁 통치(영국 30년)/ 한국(美 군정 3년)
  7. 1948년 같은 해에 건국(독립)했다.
  8. 미국과의 동맹 관계 (*그들은 미국의 병력 지원은 원치 않는다.)
  9. 첨단 과학, 기술, IT분야와 스타트업을 통한 경제발전 (*그들은 인구 대비 창업률 압도적)
  10. 주변의 군사 도발 (*그들은 하루도 편히 쉴 날이 없다. 식사 중에도 무장)

  19. 미국 정계에 막강한 영향력을 가진 로비단체 있는가; 없다/ 있다(*미국에서 가장 영향력 있는 로비 단체인 AIPAC이 있다.)
  20. 세계를 움직이는 조직, 자본, 기업; 있다(삼성, 현대, SK)/ 있다(*마이크로소프트, 인텔, 모건 스탠리, 골드만삭스, 리만 브라더스, 워너 브라더스, 파라마운트, 20세기 폭스, AP, UPI, AFP, 로이터, 뉴욕타임즈, 월스트리트 저널, INBC, ABC, CBS, BBC, 엑슨모빌, 스탠더드, 걸프, 로열 더치 셸, 텍사코, 등.
  
  혹자는 말한다. 실제로 세계를 지배하는 건 미국이 아니라 이스라엘, 즉 유대인이라고. 그런지도 모른다. 그렇다면 그것은 과연 그들은 어느 날 갑자기 하늘에서 뚝 떨어진 것일까. 천만의 말씀이다. 이들은 2000년 이상을 일관된 목적을 가지고 모진 풍파(風波)를 뚫고 여기까지 온 것이다.
  
  폴란드 바르샤바와 크라쿠프의 게토 현장도, 러시아 이르쿠츠크 게토와 이태리 베네치아의 게토도 가봤다. 독일 뮌헨의 다하우 수용소와 폴란드 아우슈비츠 죽음의 수용소도 가 봤다. 빌리 브란트 총리가 무릎 꿇었던 바르샤바 유대인 위령비도 직접 가봤다. 러시아의 포그롬 현장도, 유럽 곳곳의 크리스탈나잇 현장도 보았다.
  
  수많은 시나고그와 역사의 현장들, 그들은 그곳을 잘 보존하고 있었다. 용서는 하되 잊지는 말자며. 그들은 2000년 이상의 ‘디아스포라’ 와중에도 역사에서 교훈을 얻고 지혜를 배웠다. 그리고 그들은 오늘도 ‘토라’를 하루에 한 번 반드시 자녀들에게 읽어 준다. 역사를 잊는 민족에겐 미래가 없다면서.

  People met on my backpacking 162- There are both foolish and smart individuals.
  
  There are two countries in the world with the highest IQs. Israel and Korea I've been to Israel three times. In total, it took around two months. I stayed and accompanied them on my trips in various countries (Machu Picchu Trekking, Tashkent, Uzbekistan, and Nha Trang Guesthouse, Vietnam). We had several chats. It was interesting. I tried to differentiate similarities and differences between the two nations in my own manner.
  
  The same thing:
  1. We travel extensively over the world.
  2. We are enthusiastic about education.
  3. We never lose a debate.
  4. We do well in business.
  5. We were vassals of great powers. (Egypt, Rome, China, and Japan)
  
  6. We were controlled by trust (British for 30 years, US Military Governmentfor three years)
  7. We were both started (independently) in 1948.
  8. We have an agreement with the US.
  9. We are growing the economy through sophisticated science, technology, information technology, and startups.
  10. Military provocations all around us.

  It is said that in reality, Israel, or the Jews, dominate the globe, not the United States. Maybe so. If so, where were they from? Right. They've made it this far after enduring difficulties for over 2,000 years with a single goal in mind.
  
  I've seen Warsaw and Krakow ghettos in Poland, Irkutsk ghettos in Russia, and Venice ghettos in Italy. I also went to the Dachau concentration camp in Munich, Germany, and the Auschwitz concentration camp in Poland. I also went to the Jewish Memorial in Warsaw, where Prime Minister Willy Brandt knelt. I witnessed pogroms in Russia and sparkling nights throughout Europe. There were several synagogues and historical structures that had been beautifully conserved.
  
  They say, "Forgive, but don't forget." Even during the 'diaspora' of more than 2,000 years, they learned lessons and garnered knowledge from history. They still read 'Torah' to their children once a day. They are fully aware that a nation that forgets its history will have no future.
