  I support Minister Han's remarks.

30th of August, 2023. I applaud Korea Minister Han Dong-hoon's comments on "properly inspecting the death penalty facilities that have been neglected for the past 26 years." This appears to be a preventative action against the recurrence of horrible crimes, such as the recent stabbing rampage at Shinlim and Seohyeon stations and the sexual assault death at Shinlim-dong Park.

'In South Korea, there are now 59 inmates who have been condemned to death but have not been executed. Serial murderers such as Yoo Young-cheol, Kang Ho-soon, and Jeong Doo-young are included.

Yoo Young-cheol was found guilty of serially murdering 21 elderly men and women in Seoul between 2003 and 2004, as well as arson and body disposal. His techniques were likewise heinous, with 11 of the victims' bodies being hacked up and three being burnt to death. Yoo made claims throughout the inquiry such as "I would have killed 100 more people if I hadn't been caught" and "I ate some of the corpses' organs," which sparked public indignation. Yoo was found guilty of 20 murders and condemned to die.

Kang Ho-soon was charged with the murder of ten women, including his wife and mother-in-law, in 2009. Kang Ho-soon was sentenced to death in the first trial after being found guilty of murdering his wife and mother-in-law by setting fire to his mother-in-law's house in 2005 and kidnapping and killing eight women from 2006 to 2008. Kang Ho-soon was revealed to have set fire to his mother-in-law's house in order to obtain insurance money. Kang Ho-soon was also convicted to death in the 2009 trial. He did not file an appeal with the Supreme Court, and the death punishment was upheld.¡®

From 1998 to 2000, Jung Doo-young committed 23 crimes in Busan, Gyeongnam, and Daejeon, including robbery and murder. He was charged of murdering nine elderly ladies and wounding ten others, and he was condemned to death in 2001. -Chosun ilbo

  Why I support executions:

  1. Since the beginning of time, the state has punished offenders harshly.
  2. Human civilization has used the most severe form of punishment to deter murder: execution.
  3. If a murderer is executed, a potential killer is frightened to commit a crime for fear of losing his own life.
  4. The execution of a single murderer can save at least two and up to twenty innocent lives.
  5. The more successful the execution, the faster it is. This is because it is the most effective deterrence to a second or third murder offense.

Conclusion: Everyone naturally fears capital punishment. This is why it works better than any other punishment. This is the most effective method of murder prevention and deterrent that humanity has invented to yet. One of the state's tasks is to guarantee that men and women of all ages may stroll freely on the streets, meet friends, walk in the park, and enjoy a happy life.

  Thank you very much.
