박지원(前 미국 영주권자) 민통당 원내대표의 두 딸은 美國시민권자(2003년 6월 기준)인 것으로 알려져 있다.

朴씨는 2003년 6월17일 남북정상회담(김대중-김정일 회담)관련 대북비밀송금 의혹사건 등의 진상규명을 위한 특별검사 사무소 1510호 조사실에서 다음과 같이 진술했었다.

“저는 위 주거지(서울 영등포구 여의도동 42)에서 처 이XX와 함께 생활하고 있으며, 딸 XX(20세, 미국시민권자), 딸 XX(18세, 미국시민권자) 등은 미국에서 생활하고 있습니다.”(출처: 박지원 前 문화관광부 장관 특검 진술조서)

朴씨는 올해 초(2012년 2월6일) 黨최고위원회에서 “한미FTA폐기를 위해 적극적인 투쟁을 해야 할 때”라며 反美에 열을 올렸다. 구체적으로 그는 “제 야당과 시민사회단체, 종교단체 모두가 나설 때이기 때문에 민주통합당에서도 적극적인 대처가 필요하다”고 말했었다.  

참고로 미국 시민권을 취득하려는 외국인들은 시민권 취득 과정에서 ‘미국 시민권 선서’를 하는데 그 내용(기사하단 '참고자료')은 “▲나는 이로서 지금까지 지켜왔던 君主, 主權者, 國家, 統治權에 대한 백성 또는 시민적 충성과 충절을 완전히 버린다”, “▲國內外의 모든 敵으로부터 美합중국의 憲法과 法律을 지지하고 지키며 참믿음과 충성심을 보일 것이다” 등이다. 朴씨의 두 딸이 2003년 6월17일 이후 미국 시민권을 포기했는지의 여부는 알려져 있지 않다.
