  노어트 대변인은 미국과 한국은 긴밀한 관계를 갖고 있다며 한국은 올림픽 기간 중 특정 개인의 방한이 가능하도록 제재를 면제하는 것과 관련해 유엔과 협력하고 있다고 말했습니다.

  이는 미국뿐만 아닌 전세계가 제시하는 요건이자 미국과 전세계 많은 나라들이 공유하는 정책 목표라는 점을 매우 명확하게 하기 위해서였다는 겁니다. 노어트 대변인은 북한이 이를 원하지 않았던 것 같다며 불행하게도 북한이 해당 만남을 취소했다고 말했습니다.

They chose, unfortunately, to cancel that meeting.I think a lot of people would have been happy if that meeting have gone off, and we have been able to deliver that message to them in a very strong way face to face. ”
  
  그러면서 해당 만남이 성사되고 미국이 북한과 마주 앉아 이런 메시지를 매우 강력하게 전달했다면 많은 사람들이 기쁘게 생각했을 것이라고 덧붙였습니다.
  
  한편 노어트 대변인은 이날 존 설리번 국무부 부장관이 라트비아를 방문해 라트비아 대통령과 외무장관을 만났으며 라트비아가 금융 부문의 관리 체계를 강화하는 노력을 지지한다는 입장을 밝혔다고 전했습니다. 앞서 미 재무부는 13일, 북한과의 불법 금융활동에 연루된 혐의로 라트비아의 ABLV 은행을 제재했습니다.
