23년, 7월 27일, 정전 70주년 기념일 날, 허겁지겁 서울역에서 왜관행 새벽 첫 기차(5:53)를 탓다. 왜관역에서 시외버스로 40분, 가까스로 개막식(11:00) 직전에 도착. 벌써 제막식에는 정부 및 지자체 관계자와 시민 등 천여 명이 자리를 꽉 메우고 있었다.

세계사적 결전장 다부동에 세운 한미 최고사령관 이승만 대통령과 트루먼 대통령의 동상 제막식에 다녀 왔습니다. 멋진 두 분이 나란히 선 모습을 참으로 보고 싶었습니다. 이 감동적 순간을 맞이하는 데 70년이 걸렸습니다. 만시지탄의 감이 없지 않으나, 역시 한국인들은 배은망덕한 국민이 아님을 세계만방에 공포했습니다. 자유와 정의의 편에 선 대한민국의 위대한 승리였습니다. 이제 곧 대한민국의 심장부 광화문(이승만)광장에 이승만 대통령과 박정희 대통령 그리고 트루먼 대통령의 동상이 우뚝 설 것입니다. 전세계가 부러워하고 우러러 볼 것입니다. 오늘은 대한민국에서 태어난 것이 자랑스럽다는 것을 다시 한번 확인한 하루였습니다.

I attended the unveiling ceremony of the statues of President Syngman Rhee and President Harry S. Truman, the supreme commanders of the Republic of Korea and the United States, constructed in Dabu-dong, a battleground of significant historical significance, on July 27, 2023, the day of the 70th anniversary of the armistice. These two proud heroes were the ones I really wanted to see. To get to this point, 70 years were needed. The Koreans have signaled to the entire world that we are a nation who do not forget grace, much later than planned but as predicted. The Republic of Korea, who supported freedom and justice, achieved a significant triumph. Soon, Gwanghwamun will be home to the statues of Presidents Syngman Rhee, Chung-hee Park, and Harry S. Truman. The entire globe will come together at Gwanghwamun (Rhee Syngman) Square. Today was a day to once again confirm that I am proud to have been born in Korea.
