미국이 북한의 러시아에 대한 추가 무기 지원 가능성을 거론하며 상당한 규모의 무기 판매로 이어질 수 있다고 우려했습니다. 양국 간 무기 거래 저지를 위해 다양한 노력을 기울이면서 상황을 주시하고 있다고 밝혔습니다. 함지하 기자가 보도합니다.
  
  존 파이너 백악관 국가안보부보좌관은 북한과 러시아 간 무기 거래 가능성에 거듭 우려를 표명했습니다. 파이너 부보좌관은 10일 인도 뉴델리에서 베트남 하노이로 이동하는 미국 대통령 전용기 안에서 ‘북러 정상회의가 여전히 열릴 것으로 보느냐’는 기자의 질문에 “북한에 대해 하고자 하는 말은 우리가 이미 여러 차례 언급한 내용”이라며 “이는 우리가 북한이 잠재적으로 러시아 군에 추가로 무기를 판매할 가능성에 대해 심각하게 우려한다는 것”이라고 답했습니다.
  
  [파이너 부보좌관]“So, what I'll say about North Korea is what we have said a number of times: We have serious concerns about the prospect of North Korea potentially selling weapons -- additional weapons to the Russian military. But taking a step back, it is interesting to reflect for a minute on what it says that when Russia goes around the world looking for partners that can help it, it lands on North Korea as maybe the best and maybe the only option that it's got, with maybe one or two exceptions.”

And when we think these talks that are ongoing between the two countries might actually lead to a significant arms sale, we have not only highly discouraged that, we have sanctioned that activity; we have worked with our partners and allies to raise these concerns directly with -- with the North Koreans, including countries that maintain diplomatic relations with North Korea, which obviously the United States doesn't. And we'll see what happens.”

  한편 조 바이든 대통령은 이날 베트남 하노이에서 응우옌 푸 쫑 베트남 서기장과 만났습니다. 바이든 대통령은 이후 하노이의 한 호텔에서 기자회견을 통해 “우리는 (미국과 베트남의) 협력을 베트남 최고 수준의 파트너십인 ‘포괄적 전략 동반자 관계’로 격상시켰다”며 “이는 미국이 또 다른 중요한 인도태평양 파트너와의 관계를 강화했음을 의미한다”고 말했습니다.
